One Saturday a year · First Saturday of October
Delaware City Day
Once a year the whole town comes down to the river. Delaware City Day has filled Battery Park and Clinton Street with parades, vendors, music and neighbors since 1980.
The best day of the year in Delaware City
Since 1980, Delaware City Day has been a day of celebration and family-friendly fun honoring the riverfront town’s historic architecture and its “small town America” culture. The festivities are held along the waterfront in Battery Park, at the foot of Clinton Street, overlooking Fort Delaware and the Delaware River, on the first Saturday of October.
The 2026 celebration was held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. It landed in Delaware City’s bicentennial year, when the town marked its 200th year with special celebrations through 2026.

Delaware City Day: parade information

On the water
Boat rides, music and the view from the park
Boat rides run from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, with final boarding at 4:30 pm — in recent years the Delafort has carried passengers on the river while the ferry ran to Fort Delaware. Music plays at Battery Park through the afternoon, and children’s activities begin at 2:30 pm.
The day closes with fireworks at dusk, about 7:30 pm, over the river and the island fort.
Since 1980
Why the town keeps the date
The celebration exists to honor and preserve Delaware City’s historic architecture and its “small town America” culture, and to introduce visitors to the community and its businesses. It is an alcohol-free, family-friendly event, and the committee asks that pets stay home — the crowds and October heat are hard on them.
Vendors & community groups
Vendor applications for 2026 are closed. Email vendors@delawarecityday.com with questions about the next season.
Bicentennial year
2026 was Delaware City’s 200th year, with Bicentennial celebrations running alongside City Day.
Plan to stay
Arrive early, park on the posted streets and make a weekend of the waterfront — the day is easier when you don’t have to drive home after the fireworks.
